Enhancing educational and practical production: How student media outlets can increase multiplatform collaboration and local/regional media partnerships

Media educators have bandied about the term “convergence” in their curriculum and added classes with multimedia elements. Yet, some programs and students still cling to the ways of legacy media. How can media educators ensure that students gain experience with multimedia that will prepare them for jobs? Along with multiplatform experience, students' abilities to partner with outside media organizations to enhance their media experiences is also vital to student media production. This panel will examine ways for student media to collaborate internally on multiplatform story coverage, and models and practices for student media partnerships with local or regional media.
